The Williams of
Mi Toi Chow Chows/Mai Toi Chinese Crested
(pronounced My Toy)
In the Beginning
The Williams family started showing as a fun family
hobby and activity got their first Chow Chow in June
16th, 1986 in Billings, Montana. Debra's first time out and her bitches first time out ,she took WB-BOW-BOS under Mildred
K. Bryant.
“Plainacres Princess Leia Bitch “
Plainacres Han Solo

On
June, 22nd, 1986 10 year old daughter, Tiffany showed their male and
took BOW his and her first time out. Beating some great handlers back then.
The Williams got their foundation stock from , Mary Wuest of
Plainacres Kennel Reg. From Ohio.
They bred their male dog, Plainacres Han Solo to a female,
Al De
Bears Blue Sapphire that daughter, Tiffany picked up as a brood. Had
their first litter July 24th, 1986 When they started out
they Had no real idea what to do and no local Chow breeder help so the
next best thing was to do a lot of praying and looking at pictures.
Where did you ever come up with a
name like Mi-Toi?
That breeding produced the first litter of little “Teddy Bears”. As the
puppies grew they would sprawl out on their little tummies and look just like a
stuffed toy teddy bear.
Debra remembers saying to them “oh I am so glad you are my toy” Since
the Chow Chows are Chinese origin they decided to call the Kennel , Mi Toi Chow Chow’s. (my toy).
Out of that first breeding they kept Co-Ownership of one of the red
males. They also sold one of those male Chow Chows to “the well
known Martha Stuart”. She did Kmart cook books back then.
Debra started showing that little red male in April of 1987 In
Laramie, Wyoming. “Mi Toi’s Odie the Brassy Bear”. His very first dog show and
Debra's 4th dog show ever…he took BOB over 3 Champions out of the Bred By
Exhibitor class.
under
Edith Nash Hellerman. Getting a 3 point major. His litter sister Mi Toi’s
Elegance of Rocky Mt. Took BOS over 1 Champion bitch getting 2 points.
This being her first time out as well. Debra traded Ellie to her best friend for
a
red Mustang 11.
Now it was time to go into Group.Debra didn’t even know what
that was. She had heard of it , but never stayed around to see one before….She
didn’t even know what order to go in or anything….well on the way in ,Odie steps
on the peek, boy was that handler upset !!.. Debra was so nervous that she didn’t
pay any attention. Debra was like 4th in line and she remembers keeping
her
dog perfectly stanced and baited. When it was her turn to go set up for
the judge
while she sends the one on around…the judge stands back looks, and walks up to
Debra
slowly…Edith whispers to her, “what would you do if you were judging and these
people were doing that, as she points to the other exhibitors just standing
loosely in line and some even talking to each other…now about this time she is thinking to
herself
,oh my gosh here is one of those trick questions you hear about…so she says.."I would
tell them to get in line and present your dogs to me"… Mrs. Hellerman looks at
,Debra and turns
to the exhibitors and yells at them...get in line and stack those dogs!! Debra
was
shocked to say the least.
Debra moved her dog for her and went to the end of the line
then she took a big sigh of relief that , that was over…After she goes over all the dogs
and everyone all stacked and presented for the final look she walks toward
,Debra and Debra recalls the feeling of about
to pee her pants ,Mrs. Hellerman just points in a direction and as Debra began to move that way
she
glances over her shoulder and sees that the judge is not watching her. So she thinks well now what?? Then
she sees her going to the next dog and points them to move in the same direction.
So Debra just stopped and
stood there next to the rails. The other guy gets right behind her, then she sees another
,and another
line up behind them. The judge then motions to go around and then points atDebra and says
1.. Debra could not believe that she had
just won group.
debra also learned that day that you get points from winning group 1. So
she ended up taking home
a 5 point major and a group 1 that day!
Odie did so well that Deber entered the Chow Chow Specialty show
held right here in Spokane,Wa. in May of 1987 . This being Debra's very first Specialty
show ever.
Odie won BOW at that specialty show…
He got another 5 point major. The falling day he takes BOW for the 3rd
straight major
and
finished his Championship in 4 shows from the Bred-By Class! All within just a
few weeks time. Champion Mi Toi’s Odie The Brassy Bear was The Williams first of many
Chow Chow Champions!
Since Montana had no local
breeders of show Chow Chows she started getting what the Chow Chow Club called the
“Chow Life Magazine”. No computers in those days . Any ways she would
contact breeders of dogs she liked and get pictures of them. So her learning and
knowledge of Chow Chows came from looking at photographs of Chows from all
angles and once in a while she would get a vhs video of them.
The Williams learned a lot about Chows in this litter.
They whelped their second Chow Chow
litter in September 3rd,1987, just 2 months after the first
litter. “Leia”. the first chow chow was bred to: Ch. Rebelruns Call To Glory”
Tommy” Owned
by, Jeff and Susie Sedillos of Dever, Co.
The Williams got a litter of 4, 3 dogs and 1 little bitch from her.
They kept the girl and placed 2 of the males in show homes and the 3rd male in a
pet home
Debra sent the little girl “ Mi Toi’s American Geisha Girl”
call name- "Ming Lee"- off with the owner of her sire to go to her first shows at
the tender age of 6mo. It was March and It was a 3 day show which included a chow chow
specialty down in Texas.
Debra's girl got 2- 5 point majors back to back and a reserve
the 3rd day.
Now
these shows down in Texas where before the shows that they took Odie to in Wyoming.
Everyone in Texas just loved her and raved about her.
The co-breeder “sires owner” was so proud to have been the
one to be showing Ming Lee that they asked if Debra would bring her to the National Chow Chow
Specialty held down in Cal. And let Susie show her again.
June, 1987 was the National Specialty show held in Ca.
Debra flew down there with my Ming Lee to this enormous dog show held over there and
scared out of my mind. Billings, Montana never had shows like this before and
she
was a novice for sure. At this point she had only shown/handled her dogs
in a total of 5-6 shows.
Never in her life had she seen so many Chow Chow’s or dogs
in one place !
Debra had learned to judge Chow Chows pretty good from pictures. Anyways
can you imagine her delight to see so many in one place. Debra remembers getting to meet all the
great Chow Chow breeders and introduce herself to them. It was great in those
days.
Ok, back to the specialty show in Cal. As a novice she
recalls she didn’t
even know what a specialty Sweeps match was but entered it anyways. She had the
Co-breeder (sires owner) take Ming Lee in the ring for her so she could watch
Susie and handle Ming Lee at the
show. The match was judged by a well noted Breeder and Attorney ,Carmen
Blankenship. Debra's little Ming Lee went BOSS in that Cal. Dog show. She
recalls "I hit the
ground when she won". There was an entry of over 100 puppies in that show. All
of the Williams pictures ,
catalogs ,and ribbons as well as my trophies all burnt up in a house fire.(
"Breaks my heart)" All the pix I now have I got back from my mother."
That evening was the points show. I don’t mind telling you
that Debra was so scared, her knees where knocking together. The Judge was….Joel Marston the famous actor and Breeder that
she had seen in her great big “Book Of
The Chow Chow by Dr. Samual Draper ” Anyways Ming Lee ended up getting winners bitch
and she got her final 5 point major that day and became the Second MI TOI
CHAMPION. She finished in 5 shows with 3 - 5 point majors!!! And that BOSS. The
Williams were floating on cloud nine for days.
the only picture that remains of Ming Lee taking first in her puppy class,
the Williams don’t have her
winners bitch picture or trophies.
Those are the first litters and shows of The Williams life with
their Chow
Chows.
The Williams recall having had very limited showing, as being in Mt, you must travel
a long ways to the show. With small kids and limited budget they had to plan
careful. They only hit about 5 shows a year.
The Williams did very limited breeding. In 7-8-88 When Ming was 2
Debra bred her to their boy, Han Solo. By this time they had moved to Wyoming .They had not done
any other breeding between the time Ming Lee was born till they bred her at the
age of 2 years old. Han Solo had eaten a tennis ball and died in surgery shortly after this
litter was born.
The Williams got some very nice puppies out of that breeding. One was
Ch.Mi Toi’s I xia Oriental Hunk which they kept, and Ch.Mi Toi’s Han Solo tu that
they
co-owned with a well known breeder/judge. Joanne Shuller who was the co-breeder
on both of my Plainacres dogs.Joanne Owned the sire: "Ch. Claymonts New Edition
Of Noel" (Bart"
In the summer of 1989 Debra and daughter, Tiffany took Ming Lee , and those 2 boys
to some shows held back in Billings , Mt. Ming lee took BOB and her son, Hunky
took BOS.
Ming Lee went on to get a Group 2 that day.
That is one of Debra's most favorite Pictures of Ming Lee.
From there oldest daughter, Tiffany and Debra drove down to
Cal. To go to the Golden State Chow Chow Specialty held there in June. There was
an entry of 250 chow chow’s. That included the 3 the Williams took.
This was Ming Lee’s 3rd
time as a special and her two boys 3rd shows ever.
Debra entered Ming Lee in BREED and just for something new
they
entered her in the BROOD BITCH CLASS with her son’s, Hunky and Han JR. Debra and
Tiffany rode to the shows with friends that also showed Chow Chows. One of the ladies had the number
1 CHOW CHOW for 1989, and the # 2 dog was at the show as well.
Debra recalls going around the ring for the last look when the respected breeder judge,
Love Bangheart points at her for BOB, Now all
the male dogs in the ring start to leave and
the judge has to call them all back in to give one of them BOS.

Now I don’t mind telling you that , that was a site to see.
They all thought my Ming Lee was a male dog. Debra and Tiffany went on to take BROOD BITCH o and made CHOW CHOW history. To this date as far as I know, no other
bitch has done that. BISS CHAMPION MI TOI'S AMERICAN GEISHA GIRL name
is engraved on that silver cup.
They have received recognition for finishing the most dogs
from the bred-by-exhibitor class 4 straight years in a row . THAT IS A
GREAT HONOR.
